Fairly recently I came upon this quote by Madeleine Albright: "There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women." Well, no sooner than that quote was brought to my attention, I had a need for it.
I am back working on the Commercial Job, doing another Apartment Building. Since this building is identical to the last one I did on this job site, I am doing the identical work.
Marc and I are working on this job together, which is always fun. Well, it SHOULD be fun. We love the entire design concept and are excited to begin work in the Clubhouse soon. This project has been in the works for over a year now. Endless meetings, people coming on board at all phases of the job and having to be brought up to speed. Since we have worked with this management company on several occasions, we are used to all of this. What we are not used to is being treated with no respect. About midstream during this project, a new Project Director was assigned to this remodel. She is a total Control Freak. My guess is, this is the first major project she has ever been allowed to oversee. I’ve witness her being extremely condescending to the various contractors involved when we have met. I’ve been the recipient of several redundant and cold emails she has sent to me and/or other contractors. She cc’s practically everyone in the company each time she pens one of her poison emails.
Ms. Control Freak is particularly nasty to me. I am the only female contractor on this job. In the beginning, I gave her the benefit of the doubt. It was easy to see she was nervous with her new responsibility. I always believe it is important to support other women in business, whether it’s their own business or they are working within a company. I was eager to see her succeed and knew this project was going to turn out fabulous.
Well, it has been all downhill with Ms. Control Freak. My saving grace is that I love all the designs Marc and I have planned for this project and Ms. Control Freak is not on site while the work is going on. I’ve printed out the Madeleine Albright quote and put it in a frame on my desk to smile at when I receive one of Ms. Control Freak’s emails or phone calls. This quote is going to have to make it’s way into her possession before I am through with this job. 😉
