The Day Care Center Job Begins

June 9, 2008 //  by Paint It!

I returned home late Friday afternoon from my visit with my Mom. She seems to be doing well. Fortunately, this little episode was very mild. My brothers and I are dealing with the same issues that most Baby Boomers are facing…what to do with your aging parent/s when you do not live near. I think my Mom will move into some Senior Housing out in her area before the Winter. She is totally opposed to moving close to us, and as disappointed as I feel about this decision, my brother has pointed out that if we can just get her to move to Senior Housing for the immediate future, that will be one hurdle jumped. Baby Steps, he gently reminds me. I think what is prompting my Mom to sell her house is the fact that it is old and needs some major repairs and upgrades, not so much her health. The cement foundation of the garage is literally caving in and she is looking at a major reconstruction job for that. She is going ahead and making that repair because the house would never sell without it, plus the garage IS going to cave in. This morning, before my brother left, a pipe broke in the basement and a plumber had to come over to fix that. It’s just one thing after another, and I think she is just feeling it’s all too much to deal with. So, that’s where I’m at on the Home Front.

Saturday, I began the Day Care Center Job, which, as I’ve mentioned, is just up the street from my house. I’m loving this commute! Because it was a beautiful day and a Saturday, I only went in for a few hours in the morning to get a jump on this job. I laid out the "Numbers Wall" and painted all the numbers and some of the circles. Then I moved onto the "Alphabet Wall" and laid out the letters A-Z. Those are the 2 Preschool rooms. One of the painters had his young son with him for the day, so he kept me amused and "helped" me a bit.

Today I will put in a full day so should be able to get a lot done. I’ll take pictures of the progress and post tomorrow.
