The two sets of stairs in this two story foyer requires a little different set up for the scaffolding. It is actually going to be much easier for me and Susan, since it will be stationary. I can’t tell you how exhausting it was to have to move those two heavy sets of scaffolding around the previous foyer! Even though they were on giant wheels, the space was tight on each side and we had to move the units slowly and cautiously around the moldings. Those units are not exactly easy to "drive"!
Here is the upstairs part of the foyer. Below, a second balcony area directly across from this curved railing.
So, now we are all taped. We decided to get one area done on the first floor before the scaffolding arrives.
The finish is just a simple glaze mix. A little break from troweling! 🙂 The original finish, approved by the homeowners, was to be a two layer finish consisting of this glaze layer and then a wax tinted with Modern Masters Flash Blue was to be randomly troweled over the dry glaze layer. Below you can see what this finish looks like.
Unfortunately, the homeowners decided they did not like the Flash Blue layer. Luckily, they made this decision after we had just the one wall space completed, which was done on a ladder and not the scaffolding. We just painted it out and did the first layer again. We don’t want our clients to end up regretting their decisions. They are the ones who have to live with it day in and day out.
Now the two scaffold units are set up and we are ready to go. Here you can barely see Susan working on a Modello™ design we have placed on this small ceiling area. More about that later….

Flash blue can be tricky and yet so nice, but I’m glad you opted to make them happy. The finish looks like it has a very nice finishing sheen. 🙂

Absolutely stunning – I love the staircase and wish I could live in a house like that someday. There was so much light and space.
