The Striped Wall Continues

January 11, 2011 //  by Paint It!

Step 1 tape on gold

I start by taping out all of my stripes. There will be 32 stripes in all. For this, I use a level and watercolor pencil, then tape.

Step 2 green striae The next step is the metallic green striae. I start by doing 5 of the stripes. I let it dry a little (it dries fairly quickly), stand back, and hate it. It is just way too dark and muddy looking on the wall. It looks lighter and brighter on my sample. I try to adjust it, but it’s just looking worse and worse. The homeowner comes in and we discuss. I have to say, I was leery about using this metallic green on this particular wall from day one. I did a zillion samples and had issues with every single one. I just felt that green was not the answer for this wall. My client now agrees and decides to go with an orange.

Now, my love affair with my new iPhone begins. I’ve only had time to load one App and it is the Benjamin Moore App. I go to that, and quickly locate the nearest Ben Moore store. Luckily, it is only 1.3 miles away. I’m off, in search of an orange paint, some glaze, and other miscellaneous supplies.

Step 3, organe next to gr I mix up a glaze with the orange I just bought and try a stripe right next to the ugly green stripes. We all like the orange much better.

Step 4 gold, gr This picture shows, from far right to left: the newly glazed orange stripes, the ugly previous glazed green stripes, and a stripe that just has the gold on it, waiting to be glazed with orange.

Now my wall is dry enough to base coat the ugly green stripes back to the white color so I can redo those. I bought the white paint in Aura, which dries very quickly, so I am able to get 2 coats on before I leave for the day.
