silver glazed ceiling

Metallic Silver Ceiling

November 28, 2012 //  by Paint It!

I see I have a lot of catching up to do here on this sad little blog. I will start with the job I just finished today, and work backward for the next few posts.

SealingThis week’s job was to put a silver finish on this white ceiling. The ceiling had just been painted, but unfortunately with a flat white ceiling paint. To start, I rolled a clear coat on, called it a day and returned the next to begin glazing.

This is a finish I have done before. It’s fairly quick and easy and looks a bit like galvanized steel. It can look more like galvanized steel, with a bit more texture and another layer, but the homeowner wanted just a soft textured look. I used a mix of 2 Modern Masters silvers, plus Ben Moore’s White Pearlescent for the first layer. Once dry, I sponged on Pearl Palette Art.

Done2Here it is all done. I wish I had a picture where the room was all put together, but I was not about to haul in all the heavy furniture for a few pics!

The walls are painted a deep gray and this, soft silver ceiling really warms this large room up. I’ll see if the homeowner will snap a pic or two and email to me.

Beautiful Carol. How high is the ceiling? What did you work on?

Thanks, Chris! This is an easy finish to do. The ceiling was only 7.5′, but the room was big, maybe 25’L. You know, one of those rooms where you don’t realize how big it is until you start the job and realize it’s going to take you forever. It would have been easier to use my scaffolding, but I used a ladder instead because I can’t open the back door of my SUV w/o the window falling out at the moment! I’m getting that fixed on Friday.
