This was my last onsite job of 2015 and what a fun way to close out the year! My client is a delightful young woman who lives in a small condo in South Boston. This shot, is what you see as you enter into her unit. The idea of a bookcase was hers because she was tired of looking at just a white wall, but the space is so limited, it was difficult to hang art and no room for real bookshelves.
I had to refresh my feeb mind when it came to tackling perspective drawing, since I have not done this type of mural in a while. Finally, after I had it all sketched out, I took a Sharpie and outlined everything. One of the concerns was the Nest thermostat, and how to integrate it. I decided it would sit on a stack of books, but then changed that to a stack of board games. Specific requests were the book titles, fish, elephant, clock reading 5 o’clock, and a vase of roses. Other than that, I was on my own to fill the many shelves (detail pics in next post).
What better way to do this than to fill the shelves with pottery by the fabulous Jill Rosenwald and her husband, Lawrence McRae! The bold colors and graphic shapes and designs fit perfectly with the feel of the apartment. You will see in the next post that my drawings do not do the pieces justice, so please take a peek at both of their works by clicking on their names.
Some days I had a little company.
